A.B. Richards Will Help You Get Organized
A.B. Richards has been in business for over 30 years. We have storage containers for rent for residential or commercial use and we’ll pick them up as well. We’ve seen a lot of people create a smooth storage operation over the years and a big part of that is making sure you label the items you store. Labeling is an art form and we want to help you get organized with 7 tips on how to label your stored belongings.
Tip #1: Label Everything Sight
We’re willing to bet that the one thing you’re going to be looking for will be an item you didn’t label. So make certain you label everything and come up with a sensible plan to place your items in storage. Put the items you’re going to need first in an easy to reach place.
Tip #2 Label Everywhere
There’s no rule that says you only have to label something once. Go ahead and label the top of the box, the sides of your boxes and even the bottom. Make the labels legible, so you’ll be able to identify it easily. Labeling on the sides will keep things visible when boxes are stacked. Zillow suggests using a waterproof marker and clearly labeling messages like “FRAGILE” clearly.”
Tip #3 Keep an Inventory
This is critical. If you don’t have a list of items that you’re storing and a sense of where everything is, you’re going to have difficulty finding those items when you need to retrieve them. It’s also an excellent idea to list each item in every box or container. Keep the list had so you’ll know exactly where to find each item the moment you need it.
Tip #4 Create a System
No matter what you’re storing, the more systematic you are the more effective you’ll be in storing and finding materials. You can save a lot of time just by creating a storage system. Pick a way to categorize what is in each box and container in a way that will allow you to remember what’s in each container.
Tip #5 Consider Color Coding
One system that you should consider when storing items is color coding. For example, if you’re storing items during a home renovation, assign a color to each room that stored items need to be returned to. Or if you’re just renovating one room, say a kitchen, create one color for dishes, another for silverware, etc.
Tip #6 Get it Right the First Time
Your storage labeling system is only as good as you make it. And quality control is important, so double check all of the information you put on the labels and make certain it’s correct. You want to be certain that what the label says is in the box is actually in the box. The more accurate you are the fewer problems you’ll have.
